Originally
the website was intended to contain information etc about Rooksbridge.
But with Rooksbridge being part of the parish of East Brent, it soon became apparent that this was
not really possible. So its now headed 'Rooksbridge and East Brent
online'. Hopefully this will appeal to a wider audience! And bring in more
articles and information as more people discover and use the free facilities
provided. Its all intended to be a sort of light hearted local notice board, so
please feel free to use the site as you wish (Within the limits of decency and
libel of course! This is a family website and I reserve
the right to not publish unsuitable material).
As we are a very small community, recorded historical notes and
records etc. are extremely scarce! (I've checked out the local library) None!
Perhaps you have researched your family history, or may have other interesting
facts to share. Or maybe you can suggest where we might find records of the past
and of villagers and where they lived etc.
We are getting a lot of
interest and many enquiries requesting information etc...
from
visitors from other parts of the country and many from overseas who have
connections with our village.
Having had www.rooksbridge.org.uk
online for three or four years now, the experience has shown up which pages are
popular and those that appear to be just filling space. I felt it was time to
revamp the site by expanding the content of the most requested pages and
omitting some of under used pages.
You may have noticed that pages such as church and school agenda's and Parish
Council planning updates etc. are missing from this
new look site.
--These news items are well catered for and published in our
superb local 'Community News' magazine edited and produced by David and Yana
Archer--
However, I
would be only too pleased to reinstate any of the omitted pages and any of your
suggestions for new categories of information when the need arises and the information reaches me.
Regrettably, as most of my spare time is spent collating and typing up the
information, I do not have the time or cheek to go knocking on doors asking for
items for the website. So I rely entirely on your good-selves to contact me and provide the
information and content for our village website! And I am indebted to all of you who
are doing just that.
I see the site developing as a reference and archive
for and of, all the activities of our Village both now and from the past.
To that end, I am always looking to borrow photographs and
receive anecdotes of the people of Rooksbridge to publish on our village website.
Do please contact me with your
contribution.
(Check out the Features link for some
examples).
(Many of the old photographs within in these
pages you will recognise from the pages of the superb Millennium 2000 calendar
produced by Dave Walden. And I am indebted to him for his permission to
reproduce them on the website. However I would also like to find the original
owners of these photo's, so that I can give them due thanks and recognition).
Perhaps the
first thing you may notice about our new look village website is, that the pages
concentrate more on textual Information and less on ornamental graphics. (This
saves yours and my phone costs while online)! And also, by constructing the site using different software, information can
now be
displayed and expanded upon in a much more logical manner, making the links to information you are looking
for easier to navigate. (If an item is
underlined, or a hand icon hovers over it, it should take you somewhere)!!
For instance, I have
tried to cross reference names and places, so that if a name or place is
mentioned elsewhere in the site, the name will be underlined and linked to take
you there with a single click.
(I have no doubt there are some missing
links! Let me know if you find one)!
Due to the interest and enquiries from visitors
to the site with past or present connections to Rooksbridge, --many from
overseas-- you will find the occasional plea for information. Do please contact
me with any information at all that you may think is connected to our plea for
help. No matter how small or remote, it could prove to be important. I rely on your
response.
As you
might imagine, this website is all done on the kitchen table as it were, with no
posh facilities or
fancy designers fees ! It is updated on an irregular basis ! 'As
and when' your contributions arrive and when I've got time!! Which is how
I am able to publish it free of charge. You could say its one of my
hobbies!
Much of the content is typed in with just two fingers! But I'm getting better!
And hopefully my typing skills will improve even more, as you send me more and
more items
to share and practise on!
As far as the website content is concerned, I still rely on you to provide the
information and suggest ways of improving
the website !
