Eventually her and her partner took him to live in Portsmouth and he was often beaten by the
partner and he said that he finally ran away. A schoolfriend's parents took him in and were very kind to him and he changed his first name to Kenneth. He left them when he was called up to join the army in 1939. In 1944 he was sent back to
England with an injury. He had information that his father was living in Hockley near Southend. He had an emotional meeting with his father and tells me that his father and partner (new wife?) had 3 children.
