He tended his large garden of tulips etc. and was keenly interested in West Country history and the local flora and fauna.
Among his many duties he was responsible for raising and lowering the flag on top of the Knoll. And also tending the local cricket pitch! He was a Methodist and was organist at East Brent Chapel.¹⁴⁸
