Some notes
to bear in mind when viewing the people index.
- I will publish names only of persons still living
where known. Only with the contributors permission
!
- Wives are listed under their maiden name if known, Otherwise the married name is used.
- Entries with a ? or enclosed in [....] brackets are taken from an indistinct copy etc.
- You are free to use this data
as you wish.......... But, Nothing is written in stone! The
bulk of the information here is third hand! Use this data only as guide to your research,
please check it against official records. I cannot be responsible for any errors!
Contact me any
corrections, additions, information, stories or photo's, and I will add
your details to the list.
I can now also accept genealogy files in gedcom format. (Saves a lot of typing)! All
contributions will be acknowledged
(So popular has
genealogy website view section of the website become, that those who have been here before, will see that the
layout of the Information has changed!
This is due to the fact that the old layout, produced a whole page for each person, and with the database now listing
over 6000 individuals, it was impractical to upload and was
using up nearly all the webspace allowed for the website!
All the available information on each individual is still shown eg: spouse, children, parents, notes and
sources etc.
Which allows you to trace back your ancestors and/or their descendants etc.
It's just that its not so graphics heavy or pretty.)! JR
Xmas 2007. I am now
able produce and make available, a 'Rootsmagic'
Read only copy of
the village family genealogy data on a CD!
This CD is an
exact replica of entries from the Rootsmagic program that I use to
record our village
people data. Allowing you to follow family pedigrees, descendants,
notes and sources etc. However it cannot be edited!
The CD at this
moment has over 4000 individuals and over a 1000 families listed. It is
being added to all the time!
If you are
interested. Please send a padded A5 SAE and a small donation,
example: a small book of stamps? proceeds will go to... St Marys
Church. East Brent.
to: John Rigarlsford. The Bungalow, Mendip Road. Rooksbridge, Nr
Axbridge. Somerset. BS26 2UL
Remember there is
also a gedcom file of this information, which can be downloaded from the
website. See the notes below.
An appeal... You can
help preserve an important part of your history! We all know the situation, where an elderly relative has
died and we are left to dispose of or share their treasured belongings accumulated over a lifetime. To some of us, maybe that piece of china might be Clariss Cliff? or
perhaps that old chair could be a Chippendale? and we can 'Skip' the rest!
But that dusty yellowing pile of old deeds, birth. marriage and death certificates, bills and newspaper cuttings, sale catalogues etc in the attic,
"Cant really be worth
anything can it"?
Don't you believe it! For goodness sake resist the urge to 'burn' or 'Skip' it!
To a family or local historian, it could be a goldmine of information that would be lost forever.
Why not take or donate it to your
local Family History Society or
County Records Office for them to assess.
You do not have to include Grandma's latest bank statements. But bills and receipts etc from many years ago give a wonderful insight into the social and economic history of
their time. Who knows? You might be about to burn a valuable or rare manuscript! There is a thriving market
for old manuscripts!
But Please..... If any of it
has a connection with Rooksbridge. Please, Please... let me have a look first!
I will return it.
