Although George Reed held the title Lord of the Manor of East Brent, he never lived in the parish.  He inherited the title from his mother after he moved from Bristol to Burnham.

However he was a benefactor of both East Brent and Burnham,

He and the close members of his family are buried in St Marys Churchyard in East Brent.

Born in Bristol in 1805 George Reed was the illegitimate son of chambermaid Susanna Reed, who in the early 1800’s through her marriage to wealthy Bristol Banker Joseph Haythorne, would eventually own much of the land in East Brent and also held the title of Lord of the Manor.

Her son George Reed was a Corn merchant in Bristol but in the 1830’s he became bankrupt. But by the mid 1830’s he had inherited a large sum from his mother and he used his wealth for the benefit of the people of Burnham on Sea.
