It is with a mixture of emotions that I am writing this last
newsletter. Like the Year 4’s I am looking forward to the challenge
of a new school and all the new contacts that I will make and sad to
be leaving a place and a community that has been very good and kind
to me over the last 4 years. I have learnt so much from so many
since I have been here. I would like to thank particularly all the
staff that I have worked with at East Brent for their commitment and
dedication to a profession that is often under valued. All the
parents for their encouragement and support for me and the school.
Lastly and most importantly to all the children who are a delight
and pleasure to work with; their enthusiasm for living and learning
is a joy. I feel honoured to have been part of East Brent and its
development and I know that it will continue to go from strength to
strength with the strong team that is in place for September.
We all wish James, Daniel, Callum, Jacob, Bethany, Daniel, Freddie,
Harry, Jack, McAully, Harry, Anna, Amelia, Connor, Kieran and
Callum all the best of luck in their move to Hugh Sexey and Chelsie
as she starts a new school in Taunton. We also wish Tim all the
best as he moves with his family to Newcastle.
Mrs Julie Holmes has contributed so much over the many years that
she has worked at East Brent, we thank her for all her hard work and
wish her all the very best of luck and happiness for the future.
Mr Chris Abbott has been connected with the school for many years,
firstly as a parent and secondly as a Governor. He has chaired the
Governing Body for the last four years with a quiet strength that
has allowed the school to be run effectively. He has always
championed the school and has led us through a time of many
changes. The school will miss his good counsel. We wish Chris and
his family all the very best for the future.
Father Martin and his family are moving to Newcastle at the end of
July and on behalf of the school we wish them all well. Father
Martin has been a very good friend to the school; he is always there
for everyone in times of difficulty. He has supported all our work
with St. Mary’s Church. Our memories of singing Joseph with the
other schools in the benefice will be a very lasting and happy one
for all of us. Thank you; you will be missed.
Thanks to Isleport Foods who donated some money to pay for the
picnic table in the area by the library.
There seems to be a constant rumour about the school closing but the
Governors would like to reassure parents that this is completely
unfounded. If you have any concerns at all you can phone Somerset
Direct on 0845 456 4038 and speak to Liz Smith or phone Dave
Williams (new Chair of Governors) on 01278 794865. Parents are our
best ambassadors for the school and we need you to sell the school
to prospective parents.
Free School Meals:
The provider of free school meals will be changing from September,
the only element of choice will be vegetarian or not. Please let
the office know your preference and if your child has any allergies.
The Giant Slayer:
This was a really fantastic production and everyone enjoyed being
part of it. Thank you to the parents who brought their children to
the church fete on Saturday and again everyone enjoyed the
children’s singing. Mr Gosling will be producing a DVD of the
production & you can order one from the office costing £10.00.
With love and best wishes to you all
Heather Hector
