East Brent Harvest Home 2007
Our village
celebrated the
150th
Anniversary of Harvest Home
on 24th
August 2007
in the Harvest
Home Field
Opp.
the war memorial.
To Celebrate this important day in our village history,
a number of special events were included.
a
successful historical
exhibition of
'East
Brent through the ages'
on August 24th and 25th in the Methodist Hall.
With displays of historical items kindly loaned by local residents and
also exhibits from the official Somerset Archives.
Ably aided and
abetted by Betty Griffin
and Jenny Binning and friends.
Also a
grand formal Dinner and dance took place in the marquee on the Saturday
night!
In 1857 The
Rev. George Dennison and farmer John Higgs (churchwarden) began the
tradition of Harvest Home, as a reward for the hard labour of bringing
in the harvest.
This
tradition has occurred yearly since then, only with the exception of WW2
and the 2003 outbreak of 'Foot and Mouth' disease!
Other
communities have since copied our event. But none can compare to the
original and the best!
Lunch tickets are
bookable in advance and are normally
available from the East Brent Village Hall

The 'Knoll Inn'
